How to rent your books


Q: What Is The Process Once I Place The Order Online?

A: Once an order is placed online, it enters the processing stage; the processing stage may take 1-2 business days. Once the order is successfully processed it enters the shipping stage. Book rental center offers two shipping methods: standard and priority. When your rental period is expired, Book rental center will provide you with a prepaid return-shipping label by email for the return of your item to complete your rental cycle.

Please note: The estimated delivery date goes into effect only after the order has been successfully processed. Shipping times may vary based on weather, delivery routes, and other factors out of our control. If your book has not arrived by the expected arrival date, contact us immediately.

Q: How do I search?

A: In the search bar on the homepage: Enter title, author, or ISBN 10 or 13 digits. The most accurate search is accomplished by using the ISBN number. To find a book specifically by author or title, type author: "author name" or title: "title name". (i. e. You want to search for the book Biology by Neil Campbell. In the search field, type author: Neil Campbell or title: Biology.) If you are not sure about the author or title, books can be searched by subject type. Simply click on the subject menu on the left side of the home page to start browsing.

Q: Can I buy books from BookRentalCenter.com?

A: Yes you can! Book rental center not only rent books but we also sell them at very affordable prices.

Q: What is the selection like?

A: We currently have over a million textbooks in our inventory for you to rent. These titles cover all subjects from Chemistry to Accounting. We are constantly updating our inventory and we are confident we will have the textbook you need.

Q: What kind of condition are the books in?

A: All textbooks are in an acceptable used, like new or new condition. We strive to provide you with high quality textbooks that have minimal wear similar to used books in your school bookstore.

Q: How Much Does It Cost?

A: There are no monthly subscription fees or hidden charges when you rent with Book rental center. Each textbook has a specific rental fee dependent on the ISBN. Shipping & Handling are dependent on the shipment method chosen. Students typically see a savings of 40% to 75% over new or used purchases. Some students will see even greater savings. See some examples of actual savings below:

UNT Student: Cost of books in bookstore: $84.65. Rented for $26.53 -- 70% Savings!
UTA Student: Cost of books in bookstore: $564.25. Rented for $187.56 -- 67% Savings!
U of H Student: Cost of books in bookstore: $446.24. Rented for $183.93. -- 60% Savings!

Payment and Checkout


Q: What forms of payment can I use?

A: Book rental center currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Paypal as methods of payment. Debit cards can also be used as long as it has the Visa or MasterCard logo. In addition, we accept Book rental center gift certificates. Using Book rental center gift cards can also add up to an additional 20% savings!

We do not accept money orders, checks, or cash payments.

Q: Why is my credit/debit card being rejected?

A: There are a few reasons why your credit/debit card may be denied. Examples include: Incorrect CVV number; Billing address does not match cardholder's address; Expiration date of the card is before the end of your rental period(s); or insufficient funds or limit. Please e-mail or call our customer service if you continue to have problems.

Q: Will I be charged any sales tax?

A: Generally speaking, sales tax is not applied to our rentals. The exceptions to this are orders shipped to addresses in Texas, which are subject to a sales tax. The state tax rate applies to only the rental or purchase cost of an order, not shipping.

Q: What shipping methods are offered?

A: Book rental center currently offers one shipping options:

We currently do not offer priority shipping.

Standard Shipping:
Your order will take between 7-14 business days (no shipping on weekends or holidays) on an average for receipt after the order is processed. Shipping is free.

Please note: Return shipping is always free.

Q: How do I use a gift card?

A: Login to your Book rental center account and choose the books you want to rent. At the checkout section simply click the "pay with gift card" option and then enter your gift card number. After checkout is complete, a receipt will be available that will show how much value is remaining on the card.

Q: How long is a gift card valid for?

A: A gift card is valid for four year from the date of purchase. Please make sure that you use the entire balance before the expiration date.

Q: Why doesn't my gift card work?

A: There are a few reasons why your gift card may not work:
  • The card has expired - an error message "Expired code" will show
  • The card is incorrect or nonexistent- an error message "Invalid card" will show
In most cases, errors are due to an incorrect gift card number being entered. Please be sure to check for any typos.

Q: Is the information I submit secure?

A: Whenever you submit any private information (i. e. name, address, or credit/debit card number) on this website, you will see the phrase "You are using our secure server" at the top of the page. This banner indicates that a secure connection is in place. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Tracking your Orders


Q: How do I track my order?

A: Students can track their shipments by logging into their Book rental center account. If a shipment is through the USPS Media mail, it will not have a tracking number. According to the USPS website, it takes 5-9 business days for delivery. Please allow the times accordingly.

Q: Can I cancel an order I've recently placed?

A: If you want to cancel your order, and it has not shipped, please contact us ASAP via the Customer Service page. Most orders are shipped the next business day, so the sooner you contact us, the better we can assist you. Unfortunately, we cannot cancel orders that have shipped or been delivered.

Q: How Long Does It Take To Get my Books?

A: It depends on the shipping method you select. After a 1-2 day processing period (excluding weekends and major holidays), it typically takes 7-14 business days for standard shipping or 2 to 6 business days for priority shipping. Shipping times may vary based on weather, delivery routes, and other factors out of our control. If your book has not arrived by the expected arrival date, contact us immediately.

Q: What if my books don't show up?

A: We do our best to insure we track your books and get them to you on time. Like any package delivery system, on very rare occasion, packages can be lost along the way. Please notify Bookrentalcenter.com if your books fail show up. After some initial investigation, if it is determined that your books may be lost, we will immediately expedite at no extra charge a replacement book.

Q: Why Does The Shipment Invoice Quote A Different Price Than My Online Invoice From Book rental center?

A: If we do not have a textbook in stock, we will fulfill your rental request through one of our fulfillment partners to ensure a prompt delivery. The invoice included in your shipment is not a reflection of the fees assessed to you. The invoice included in your shipment is for the records of BookRentalCenter.com. You may view the total fees assessed to you by logging in to your BookRentalCenter.com account.

Q: Why did I receive a package from someone other than Book rental center?

A: If we do not have a textbook in stock, we will fulfill your rental request through one of our fulfillment partners to ensure a prompt delivery. The invoice included in your shipment is not a reflection of the fees assessed to you. The invoice included in your shipment is for the records of Bookrentalcenter.com. You may view the total fees assessed to you by logging in to your Chegg.com account.

Please note: Your Bookrentalcenter.com rentals may arrive in non-Book rental center branded packaging.

Q: Are All Supplemental Materials Included With The Textbook Rental?

A: Because books we provide are potentially used, we cannot guarantee that your book will include student access codes, CD ROMs, workbook packages, etc. Supplemental materials are often used or damaged during the book's initial use, and cannot be obtained. Please be sure you either have access to supplemental materials, or do not need them for your classes. Most professors do not require the supplemental materials that come with the core textbooks.

Q: How do I return a book to BookRenter.com for a refund?

A: To return a book you no longer want due to personal reasons (i. e. you've dropped a class or just don't want the book anymore), you need to Contact Us within 3 days of your order's delivery date, which is based on your tracking number. If you correctly follow the instructions sent to you via email from Customer Service, you will be refunded for your entire order (including books, shipping and tax), but will also be charged a 20% restocking fee , which is used to help cover return shipping and transaction costs.

If you need to return your book due to a mistake BookRentalcenter.com made with your order (i. e. Books do not match your order or damaged books are shipped), we will gladly refund you in full (including books, shipping and tax). To receive a refund, you must contact us within 3 days of your order's delivery date, which is based on your tracking number.

Using your books


Q: What happens if I lose my book?

A: You are responsible for all books rented through Bookrentalcenter.com. If you lose your book, you will be charged the full retail cost of your book.

Q: Can I write or highlight in my book?

A: Highlighting and writing in our books is not permitted. We ask that you are considerate while using the book. It�s important that you try to keep the books you have rented in the best possible condition. This way we can re-use them to help another person save money on their textbooks.

Q: What will I be charged if I damage my book?

A: Bookrentalcenter.com requires books to be kept in like-new or better condition while in your possession. If you send back a damaged book, it will remain the property of Bookrental.com and you will be charged a damage fee. Damage fees are based on how badly damaged a book is.

Good Condition- = No Damage Fee

The book has a firm cover with no noticeable damage. All pages are intact (no creases, tears, or stains present). There shall be no writing or highlighting, and no damage to the binding.

Unacceptable Condition = Damage Fee

Minor Damage (35% of retail)
No noticeable damage to the cover (no markings on the inside or outside), all pages are intact (no creases, tears, or stains) and present. The book has minimal writing and/or highlighting, and all pages are legible.

Major Damage (full retail)
The cover is noticeably damaged or missing. Pages are stained, missing, or illegible. There is writing and/or highlighting on more than 20% of the pages. Any other case that renders the book unusable will also result in a major damage fee.

The Rental Period


Q: What Is The Defined Length Of A Semester/yearly/summer Rental?

A: The defined length of a semester rental is 120 days from the original order date.
The defined length of a yearly rental is 240 days from the original order date.
The defined length of a summer rental is 60 days from the original order date.


Q: How do I return my books when I'm done?

A: Follow the steps below for an easy return:
  • Print out the shipping label that was emailed to you.
  • Securely seal the package with your books in it. Place the shipping label on the box secured by tape.
  • Drop the package off at any USPS Post Office location.
You may use the packaging that your rental was shipped in or you can provide your own packaging. Be sure there are no labels or writings other than the prepaid UPS shipping label.

Q: What if my due date falls on a weekend or a holiday?

A: You can either ship your book back a day earlier or on the very next business day. Due dates that fall on weekends or holidays are allowed a 2 day grace period.

Q: What If I Got An Incomplete In My Class And Need To Keep The Book Longer?

A: Bookrentalcenter.com offers many ways to extend your rental. Extensions of 15, 30, and 60 days are readily available. This option can be accessed directly from your Bookrentalcenter.com account; simply login and select which books you would like to extend and follow the prompts.

Please note: Extension fees are calculated based on the individual ISBN

Q: What are extensions?

A: Extensions are options for the student to prolong their rental period. Extensions of 15, 30, and 60 days are readily available. This option can be accessed directly from your Bookrentalcenter.com account; simply login and select which books you would like to extend and follow the prompts.

Please note: Extension fees are calculated based on the individual ISBN.

Q: Is there a limit to how many times I can extend a rental?

A: There are no limits to how many times you can extend your rental. In the interest of saving students money, however, Bookrentalcenter.com has a system in place to insure that a student does not rent a book for more than Book rental center�s retail price. If the cost of your rental + your rental extensions is more than the Book rental center�s retail price then we will offer the book as a purchase.

Q: How will I be charged if I buy an extension?

A: You will be charged through your bookrentalcenter.com account with the payment option that is associated with (i. e. Credit card or Paypal).

Q: Once I extend a rental, where do I find my new due date?

A: Your new due date will be shown on your account page.

Q: Can I buy my rented books?

A: Absolutely! Simply login and select which books you would like to purchase and follow the prompts.

Q: Are there any late fees?

A: If your books are not postmarked by your rental due date you will be charged a 30% late fee. After 5 late fee charge, the book is yours to keep.

If your books have still not been shipped one full week after the due date, it will be assumed that you would like to convert your rental to a purchase and a replacement fee will be charged.

Due dates will vary based on original date of order. You can find your due date by logging into your Bookrentalcenter.com account and viewing your rental history.

To avoid a late fee, you can either extend your rental or convert it to a purchase.

Q: How do I track my return?

A: Our shipping partner, UPS, designates a tracking number for every shipment. This tracking number provides the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. To check the status of your shipment, login to your bookrentalcenter.com account and click the "Track Shipment" option.

Q: How come I can't get through to a Customer Service?

 A: The best way to reach us is by email, especially during the peak season at the beginning of every semester. Because of our limited customer representative, we cannot handle such a large call volume. We limit the number of reresentative to help save cost which we place the savings onto our customers. Please email us with any questions, and we will reply within 12-24 hours.

Miscellaneous


Q: Can I order from anywhere in the world?

Unfortunately, Bookrentalcenter.com only ships books in the Continental United States. So although you may be able to order online at any location in the world, we would only be able to ship here in the United States.

Q: Do you only cater to certain schools?

Absolutely not! We serve every school in the continental United States with a wide inventory of books. All you need is Internet access to start saving money on books!

Q: What If I Was Sent A Book That Was Different Than What I Ordered?

If you have received an incorrect textbook please contact us, immediately, to report the error. Please include the ISBN and title of the textbook you have received by error. We will provide a pre-paid return-shipping label for the return of the incorrect textbook and we will process a new shipment of the correct textbook, immediately.

Q: What Should I Do If I Received A Damaged Book?

If you have received a damaged textbook please contact us, immediately, to report the error. Please include a description of the damage; torn pages, missing pages, excessive writing, water damage, etc. We will provide a pre-paid return-shipping label for the return of the damaged textbook, if it is non-usable, and we will process a new shipment of a usable textbook, immediately.
